Begin with one small theme
Choose a subject that holds together at a small size: a pet portrait, seasonal fruit, game item, letter badge, or desk decoration. A single clear subject usually produces a cleaner pixel outline than a crowded composition.
Let color support the shape
Pick a base color, one shadow, and one highlight for the subject, then use a neutral outline or deliberate empty space. Fewer intentional colors can look more like designed pixel art and are easier to source and place.
Make the pattern useful
Flat bead patterns can become coasters, magnets, keychains, bookmarks, frame decorations, and gift tags. Plan for holes, edge strength, and finished dimensions when you decide how the project will be used.
